DESCRIPTION:Last year\, the Canadian Red Cross entered into a new partnership agreement with the Yukon Government to provide the delivery of Emergency Support Services (ESS)\, non-medical survival support to people affected by an emergency\, to residents of the Yukon Territory. \nTr’ondëk Hwëch’in and the Canadian Red Cross will be hosting an information session at the TH hall on Tuesday\, August 27\, 2024\, from 4-5 pm. Our guest speaker is Brandon Tsätsʼät\, from Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin First Nation and is part of the Wolf Clan. Brandon works for the Canadian Red Cross as a Project Officer of Indigenous Programs for BC and Yukon. \nWe are extending an invitation to you and all those interested in our community to join us\, virtually to discuss how citizens can access these supports and others offered by the Canadian Red Cross\, as well as answer any questions or concerns. \nFor more information about the programs provided – take a look at the link below from the Canadian Red Cross Indigenous Leadership Helpdesk. DESCRIPTION:Elders\, Citizens\, and community members are invited to join us on Thursday\, August 29 at 3:00pm for a blessing ceremony for the new Elders’ Complex Site. The proposed site location will be on the corner of Third Avenue and York St. Light refreshments will be provided. \n\nThis complex has long been requested by Citizens\, and will provide a mix of supported and independent living\, including community space for gathering with family\, youth\, and children.\nThe facility will include a shared programming space and kitchen\, as well as barrier-free and accessible individual living units. We have selected a site close to the Chief John Jonas Centre and other TH housing to contribute to a feeling of community and connectedness among residents.\nThe exterior and interior of the project will be designed with Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in history and cultural values in mind\, and with the input of TH Elders.\n\nThis housing project will be funded by the National Indigenous Collaborative Housing Inc. We hope you can join us in this blessing and commemorate the journey ahead.

This free event will be held inside the DZCC Theatre from 4pm to 7pm on Friday\, Aug 30. \n\n\n.\n\n\nKearney is Mi’k maq artist who was born and raised in the Yukon. She uses her art to reconnect with the land and her heritage and sees art making as a way to balance between living in both an indigenous and western world. She’s passionate about helping in the resurgence of traditional practices and teachings through many art forms.
