Yukon Government has issued a Flood Watch for the Klondike River.
The Klondike River is open from Rock Creek to the mouth. However, several ice jams and ice sheets remain from Henderson Corner upstream. There is currently an ice jam at the upper end of Henderson causing backwater flooding.
Weather forecast: A high of 18 is expected today, with a forecast in the low teens for Tuesday and Wednesday and a chance of showers.
Water Level Forecast: The potential exists for the current jam to move lower at Henderson and affect additional properties. When the Henderson ice releases, it is unlikely to re-form below Rock Creek and is expected to run to the Yukon River. A temporary rise in water levels will accompany the ice run but is unlikely to cause flooding.
Safety: Stay off the ice. Stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks. Flood-prone property owners should have a flood plan in place in the event of a flood.
