Drin Hǫzǫ. Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Citizens and staff members are invited to join a number of field excursions as part the International Conference on Permafrost (ICOP). This global event on Permafrost will bring more than 500 people to the Yukon to discuss issues, experiences and research on permafrost. Our field excursions will visit sites on Traditional Territory in/and around Dawson between June 12-16.
As part of the teachings, we want to build on the meaningful contributions of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and would love for Citizens to share their traditional knowledge and experiences with our excursion participants. We will be visiting sites including Moosehide Slide, Tr’ochëk and as well as other important sites of cultural significance in your Traditional Territory, such as the Klondike Goldfields, Chapman Lake, the Tombstone region of the southern Dempster Highway.
Excursions will take place on:
June 13 morning: Midnight Dome and Moosehide Slide
June 13 afternoon: Goldfields
June 14 all day: Goldfields
June 15: Dempster Highway
If you would like to join one of these excursions and share your knowledge, please contact Kathleen McGarity, Government Relations Coordinator at council.support@trondek.ca or phone 867-993-7100 ext. 118 for meetup points and travel arrangements.
